It’s fairly clear to me that painting on canvas is where I’m headed.
When I actually sat down to think about it I realized that the kind of painting I’m interested in is going to require a lot of space and materials. So while I’m preparing and purchasing all that is required I’d like to get started with something at least akin to paintings. Enter my ‘sketch cards.’
Essentially the idea is simple: I start with heavy paper card and use the pure pigments I’ve already procured along with various small tools to brush and etch works onto the paper. Then using a simple fixative I can work in layers, albeit simply. It’s not a perfect process but I can, to a certain degree, maintain it while I build up the studio. One thing is for sure, it uses up a lot of tape!
