Continuing my search for various emulsions and recipes, I’m testing some unfiltered linseed oil along with buff white oil paint.
This isn’t an uncommon mix, though usually I’d imagine other artists would use a refined linseed oil instead. The reason I’m testing it however is I bought the oil to treat some wood on our balcony and I’ve so much of it, why not give it a try?
Well I did, and the results were rather depressing. A few hours after painting some canvas with it the resultant mixture broke apart and you could see a sort of oil sag on the painting. While usually this occurs when there’s simply too much oil, it seems it can also occur when different types of oils are used. It was worth a test though and despite the apparent failure there may be an effect of note - though I’ll be unlikely to try it anytime soon as it’s simply not that interesting.
